Yoga has served as the FOUNDATION for my physical and mental strength no matter where I've traveled. Over the years, I’ve called cities or villages in North and South America, Asia, and Africa home. Now I live in Paris. I've worked as an anthropologist and documentary filmmaker, a teacher and a writer. Sometimes I’ve felt like an unfocused nomad, but with each new address and job title, yoga has kept me CONNECTED to my true PURPOSE: to guide people toward seeing their significance and appreciating the relevance of others.
I believe that setting an intention and then trusting your own abilities as you REACH PAST YOUR LIMITS, open your heart, and breathe from the depths of your souls with awareness can help you heal, can help you TRANSFORM and can help you ACHIEVE more than you thought possible.
I've practiced yoga for more than fifteen years. When I was younger, it was a complement to working out at the gym and running. I liked the way the asanas LENGTHEN my muscles and shaped my CORE. Then I had some medical issues. It got to the point where I couldn’t recognize myself as the person looking back in the mirror, and I felt completely betrayed by my body. I stopped taking care of myself because I thought that there was no point if everything was out of my control. By slowly returning to yoga, I realized the opposite is true. We have an innate need to FIND ALIGNMENT IN OUR LIVES, to MOVE toward the positive, and ultimately to seek out joy and abundance.
When we take care of our bodies, our minds have an easier time finding this path. Developing a practice with PATIENCE and COMMITMENT allows us to direct our lives with compassion towards ourselves and others. Yes, yoga can reshape us and help us find BALANCE and FLEXIBILITY, but I also believe that on the mat, through our practice, we strip away the layers of doubt and distractions and we are able to express our TRUEST SELVES.
